About - Whitehouse Texas

Located southeast of Tyler on State Highway 110 is the City of Whitehouse, in Smith County.
The population of Whitehouse as of 2020 was over 8,200 residents.

History

By the early 1870s the International-Great Northern Railroad made it practical to ship produce from Whitehouse, and a post office was established in 1873. Whitehouse was incorporated on March 16, 1953.

Whitehouse's name is reportedly derived from a whitewashed building near the railroad tracks that served as a school, church, and place for business meetings and social gatherings. Steam locomotives going through town stopped to take on water near the "white house," and soon the community itself became known by the term

The school district (WISD) preceded incorporated municipal government, and was largely responsible for the eventual formation of the city.

Many businesses provide services to area residents including a post office, Austin Bank, Southside Bank, Brookshires Grocery, veterinary clinics, flower shops, drugstores and others. A variety of restaurants are available including McDonalds, Burger King, Sonic, Dariy Queen and local eateries.

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes was born on September 17, 1995, grew up in the Tyler area and is now the starting quarterback #15 of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs. He attended Whitehouse High School where he played football, baseball and basketball. In football, he had 4,619 passing yards, 50 passing touchdowns, 948 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns as a senior.

He then played college football at Texas Tech, and announced on January 3, 2017, that he would forgo his last year of college eligibility and enter the NFL Draft. He was subsequently drafted by the Chiefs as the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

In his first year in the NFL, Mahomes served as the backup to Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith. But after a trade that sent Smith to the Washington Redskins, Mahomes became the starter for the 2018 season. That season, he became only the third player in NFL history to throw 50 touchdown passes in a single season.

Mahomes helped the Chiefs advance to their first AFC Championship game since 1993, and allowed the Chiefs to host the first AFC Championship game held at Arrowhead Stadium in January of 2019. Mahomes passed for 295 yards and three touchdowns in that championship game, but the Chiefs lost to the New England Patriots in overtime.

Mahomes has three championship rings in total, as he won Super Bowl LIV in 2020, Super Bowl LVII in 2023 and, his most recent championship win, Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. He and the Chiefs will appear in the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans against the Philadelphia Eagles.
